This article really got me thinking about how businesses, large and small, need to find ways of making themselves felt, on an emotional level, with their customers. Those that do have a kind of inertia helping to keep them in the market. Businesses that are able to really bond with people would leave a vacuum if they closed down, and this is a key factor in the business being able to survive tough times, when similar operations have been forced to shut down.
The examples of developing a ‘culture mentality’ are wide ranging and can go all the way from Apples dynamic branding and product placement, down to the sole trader who goes out of their way to make a difference in peoples lives.
Bill Taylor has made me think about things, possibly from a different perspective, and that can only be a good thing. Read the article here.
The big challenge is this: “If you do business the way everybody else does business, you’ll never do any better.”
So, if your company went out of business, would anybody notice?
Another poignant question would be: Do you have an exit strategy in case your position disappears? Have you started building the brand that is YOU? Have you started developing alternate sources of income?
Consider it: Those that think ahead, stay ahead.
